M. Night Shyamalan Met With Steven Spielberg To Discuss Indiana Jones Ideas

After the success of The Sixth Sense, director M. Night Shyamalan met with Steven Spielberg to discuss ideas for the fourth Indiana Jones movie (which would later become Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). The director, in promoting his new movie Old, spoke to Collider about this meeting.

Shyamalan said Raiders of the Lost Ark is his favorite movie of all time, so getting to meet with Spielberg was “a dream.” As for his idea for the fourth Indiana Jones movie, Shyamalan said, “I did have a take,” but it was early days and it never materialized.

“They were bouncing ideas off of me. So everyone had different ideas of what to do. When you say that, I have in my head, it’s a green notebook, and I had this idea. It was a darker idea,” he said.

“I had an idea. I hadn’t pitched it to them or anything like that, but I had an idea,” he said. “While I know it is a longshot that we’ll ever get to see his green notebook filled with his ideas, hopefully one day he’ll post them on his Instagram and we can all imagine the possibilities.”

The next Indiana Jones movie is currently filming, and it brings back Harrison Ford once again in the title role. The cast also includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, Mads Mikkelsen, and Boyd Holbrook.

The movie is being directed by James Mangold (Logan, Ford vs. Ferrari), who took over for Steven Spielberg after he dropped out, making Indiana Jones 5 the first entry in the entire series to not be directed by him.

Indiana Jones 5 is due in theaters on July 29, 2022. The upcoming film is the follow-up to 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The franchise is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, with Raiders of the Lost Ark hitting theaters back in 1981.

Call Of Duty Is No. 1 In Launch Month For 15 Years In A Row

For many many years now, Call of Duty has been a license to print money for Activision Blizzard as each annual entry in the series has been a blockbuster success story. October’s release kept that tradition alive as analyst firm the NPD Group has reported that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II was last month’s best-selling title in the US in dollar sales, making the 2022 release the 15th consecutive year that a Call of Duty release has ranked as the best-selling game during its release month.

Gran Turismo Movie From District 9 Director Gets Release Date, Plot Synopsis

GameSpot can confirm the earlier report that District 9 director Neill Blomkamp will be adapting Sony’s Gran Turismo racing game series into a movie, due to arrive August 11, 2023. It was previously reported that this project might be a TV series, but that has turned out to not be the case.

The plot synopsis for the film reads, “Based on a true story, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.” While it might seem strange to adapt a video game and not use its plot, Gran Turismo doesn’t have a plot. It’s a racing game. At least the game is involved, though, unlike 2014’s Need for Speed.

John Cena To Star In Looney Tunes Animated Hybrid Film

John Cena is set to star in a film featuring Looney Tunes characters adapting a 1990 New Yorker humor article titled “Coyote v. Acme.” Deadline was first to report about the upcoming project, which is expected to be a hybrid of animation and live-action.

In the original New Yorker piece, a lawyer representing Wile E. Coyote sues the Acme Company for “85 separate occasions…[in which] certain products did cause him bodily injury due to defects in manufacture or improper cautionary labelling… Mr. Coyote is self-employed and thus not eligible for Workmen’s Compensation.” Dave Green (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows) will direct a screenplay from Samy Butch (Crown Prince)–though IMDb lists James Gunn as co-writer–in what is sure to be a fun and tongue-in-cheek film. No production start date or other cast information has yet been announced. It’s unclear if Cena will be playing or voicing an animated character.
